These courses are offered, without cost, to apparel industry employees and managers. They are made possible by The Consortium for Workers Education (C.W.E,) grants from New York State, and NYC. At completion of course, certificate will be awarded to 100% attendance students.

Students must be pre-registered prior to the start of the classes in order to enroll in the courses. All materials are provided. Classes are held at the GIDC Training Center 182 Mulberry Street Chinatown and at the High school of fashion industry 224 W, 24 Street room 521
Pattern Making II ( English - Spanish ) Location: Michael Calderone 308 w. 38th St 3rd fl. Dates: 03/08 – 05/19/2010

Prerequisite: Must be employed/unemployed in the garment/fashion industries
Course Description: This intensive course teaches (manual) flat pattern making skills. Students learn how to develop basic sloper and basic variations of skirts, pants, sleeves, collars and dresses. Skills include dart manipulation, notching, pleats and seams (this class is limited to 20 students for 22 sessions.)

Prerequisite: Must have knowledge of garments and sewing skills. Sewing skills of each student will be assessed (2/16-10) to determine eligibility for enrolling in this class.
Course Description: This course equips experienced sewers with full garment construction and additional skills in making lined garments. Each student will make a Designer dress, a lined skirt and a pair of pants, (this class is limited to 21 students for 24 sessions.)
Fundamentals of Sewing, (English-Spanish) Location: High School of Fashion Industry, Room 521 Dates: 03/9 - 05/27/2010 Tue and Thu. 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Prerequisite: Must be employed/unemployed in the garment/fashion industries
Course Description: This course is designed to teach students to set basic to advanced pockets (15 types) and zippers. Students learn pocket setting procedures, positioning, use of proper attachments, and applications. In addition, an introduction to specialty machines, Students will be required to sew knit tops and woven blouses or skirts and finish the seams and hems using specialty machines. (This class is limited to 21 students for 24 sessions.)
Fashion Terminology for quality assurance & industry standards (English-Chinese)

Course Description: This class teaches an understanding of Sewing, Specifications, interpretation of technical abbreviations for better communication of Sample makers with patternmakers and designers in the sample room. Class is limited to 21 students for 12 sessions
